limit 10 students
During this class we will address:
• all the details and options to publishing a book including: traditional publishing, finding an agent,
self-publishing, editing and layout, finding quality vendors, budgets, quality control, and POD.
• Ideas on how to market and sell a book.
• How to create a budget for marketing the book and if self-publishing, a budget for producing their book.
Following lunch we will have an hour for questions that weren't answered in the morning.
In the afternoon each student will present their proposal and we will work as a class to brain storm the next steps needed to get published using all of the information from the morning session.
At the end of class everyone will receive a booklet that not only covers everything from class, but also goes into deeper detail with specific resources including publishers, printers, how to find the right designer, etc. Each student will leave class with a clear plan for how to move forward with their book.
Laurie will need each registered student’s contact info (name, email address, and website if they provide it) so that in her words: “I can email everyone before the class to introduce myself and request a little more information in order be prepared to address each student's needs. I want advance time to consider each student and how best to help them before class begins.”
Best for intermediate to advanced photographers.
Students should bring:
• 20-30 photographs representing the body of work they are interested in publishing.
• A theme or summary of their book.
• Description of their target market.
• Description of any weaknesses they feel they need help with.
